Point72 Alum Enlisted by Schonfeld
Stock picker John Mansfield began managing $150 million for Schonfeld Group this month.
Through his own management company, Audubon, Mansfield is making bets on energy stocks for the New York investment firm founded by Steven Schonfeld. Mansfield was most recently at Point72 Asset Management, the family office of Steve Cohen. He left Cohen’s operation in December, about two years after joining Point72’s predecessor, SAC Capital.
Schonfeld Group, which has $7.5 billion under management, formed in 1988 as a proprietary-trading shop. It now describes itself as a family office, deploying capital across a multitude of strategies.
Apart from the Mansfield operation, Schonfeld is on a hiring spree for another of its managers, New York-based Quantbot Technologies, aiming to lure three to five investment professionals annually.
The best-known manager to start his career at Schonfeld was Dmitry Balyasny, who joined the firm in 1994. He left to launch Chicago-based Balyasny Asset Management in 2001.
